Abraham Lincoln Archive, 6 Pcs Ephemera Incl. 1860 Presidential Campaign Beardless Lincoln Rail Splitter Cover

A superb collection of ephemera and other printed collectibles relating to 16th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), including an unusual 1860 presidential campaign cover depicting Lincoln as a beardless rail splitter. The items in the archive include postal covers, postcards, advertising material, and other colorful souvenir visuals, ca. 1860 to the 20th century. Please refer to catalog photos for additional information related to condition, which is overall very good to near fine. Six pieces total. The average size of the items is 7" x 5.5."

The lot is comprised of:

1. A Lincoln & Hamlin 1860 presidential cover published by J.A. Powells (Jefferson, Ohio) depicting a beardless Lincoln as a rail splitter, with a wonderful allover design also showing felled trees, the Mississippi River, and a flatbottom boat. Ca. 1860. The cover is addressed to "Mr. Ebinezer F. Dustin / Contoocookville / N.H." Bearing a cancelled 3-cent dull red George Washington stamp in the postage section, and bearing an indistinct Ohio postmark at center. Pencil-inscribed with a former collector's information (Siegel, 1992) verso. Expected minor wear and weathering to the corners and edges, else near fine. The envelope measures 5.375" x 3.125."

2. An unusual 100th anniversary Abraham Lincoln birthday advertising note or large format business card from the Western Bank Note and Engraving Company (Chicago-Pittsburgh-St. Louis-Baltimore-Los Angeles), ca. 1909. Minor toning or discoloration found near the bottom, else near fine. 6" x 4.25." The front depicts Lincoln and the U.S. Capitol, with the patriotic banner "Malice Toward None, Charity For All" unwinding above the February 12, 1809 birthday of "The Great Emancipator." The reverse describes the company's ability to print fine "Stock Certificates, Bank Notes, Bonds, Etc."

3. An Abraham Lincoln tribute by the Western Bank Note and Engraving Company (Chicago), ca. early 20th century, featuring the text of "Lincoln's Gettysburg Speech, November 19, 1863." On a thick, double-weight card with embossed text. 6.25" x 3.375."

4. An Abraham Lincoln color postcard continuing the Lincoln rail splitter trope, ca. early 20th century, depicting pictorial representations of Lincoln's broad-axe and Lincoln's ox yoke, then in the possession of the University of Illinois. Blank message area verso. Isolated pencil inscription found verso with minor corner rubbing, else near pristine. 3.375" x 5.5."

5. A "Lincoln Speech Memorial, Gettysburg, Pa." color souvenir card published by Blocher's (Gettysburg, Pennsylvania), ca. 1912, when the monument was dedicated by sculptor Henry Bush-Brown. The entirety of Lincoln's address is reproduced below a depiction of the monument above. Near fine. 7" x 5.5."

6. An oversized color postcard, "High Tide at Gettysburg," almost certainly a modern reproduction after a 1908 design. At center is a facsimile of Lincoln's November 21, 1864 condolence letter to Mrs. Bixby of Boston. Near pristine. 5" x 7."
