Description
Continental Embroidered Altar Panel, Circa: Late 17th/ Early 18th C. Silk and metallic thread embroidery on satin silk. Large embroidered rectangular panel of silk satin, divided horizontally into five sections separated by small circles. Each section features a long stemmed urn holding fantastic flowers, with abundance of flowers all around. The embroidery is executed with long satin stitches. The drawing is somewhat clumsy, not refined enough to be French, so the possibilities of its origin could be Dutch or Italian. Size: 27'' x 71'' (69 x 180 cm).
