Measuring 77'' x 32'' (196 x 81 cm), this shawl boasts intricate silk embroidery on linen, a testament to the skill and artistry of its creators. The predominantly red silk thread, embroidered in cross-stitch, beautifully contrasts against the white or natural linen background. Red was a prominent color in Palestinian ceremonial garments, second only to indigo. The red embroidery threads were typically dyed using madder and cochineal, giving them their vibrant hue. What distinguishes Ramallah shawls from others is their unique characteristics. They are embroidered on white or natural linen, featuring a zigzag pattern known as the "tall palm" motif as a prominent design element.
