Festoon Patterned Amphoriskos. 14 cm. Hellenistic 2nd-1st Century BC. Sand-Core slate blue with applied red and white trailings. Translucent iridescent handles and bottom knob. A magnificent piece of antiquity! (Reminiscent of our early romantic American Presidential period). Completely intact and free from any noticeable restoration. Cf. Ancient Glass at the Newark Museum, Susan H. Auth #284 (probably Caruso Sale no. 207); Toledo, amphoriskos form III: 2B as defined on p. 129. Two examples with similar color schemes involving the white and red trailed decoration are found in Oppenlander, not 207, p. 77 and no. 221, p. 81.Half-Century Formed Collection of Ancient Glass from the Holy Land.
