U.S. Model 1833 Dragoon Enlisted Man's Saber,
Nathaniel P. Ames, Springfield, Massachusetts, 1837.
Brass hilt, the down turned quillon marked 'TW' for Springfield Arsenal sub-inspector Thomas Warner, two branches on the knuckle bow with slot at the top connecting to a stepped pommel with back strap, leather covered wood grip lacking wire wrapping; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and pipe back, the right side etched near the hilt 'N.P. Ames/Cutler/Springfield/1837,' and on the left side of the blade 'United States,' with leather washer at top of blade.

Condition
Hilt toned to dark yellow, leather grip wrapping is approx. 80% intact with some stabilized with glue, lacking wire wrapping, quillon slightly bent to the left; blade toned to dark gray, has overall light pitting and evidence of old honing to the edge, etched markings are strong.
