U.S. Civil War Model 1860 Light Cavalry saber, sword by Ames, dated 1865. Nice example of the principal cavalry saber, features all brass mounts, a wood with original leather wrapped sword grip, intact bound brass wire wrap and steel scabbard. The curved 35" blade is stamped on one side of the ricasso with the scrolled banner MADE BY AME MFG CO. CHICOPEE MASS. One the other side - U.S. J.F. 1865. Additional inspector G.K.C. stamp on pommel, and J.C.W. stamped on scabbard drag on one side, 59 stamped on the other side. All steel-curved scabbard, complete with both mounting rings. * J.F. ( John Ferdinand ) and J.C.W. ( James C. Watson ) were both Union Government Inspectors assigned to the AMES sword factory during the period of the Civil War.
