Description
"Jane Withers and the Swamp Wizard: An original story featuring Jane Withers, famous motion picture star as the heroine" by Kathryn Heisenfelt, illustrated by Harry E. Vallely, Authorized Edition published â€by‎ Whitman, Racine, Wisconsin, 1944. First Edition.
Hard boards [some wear and soiling: see photos]; 5.1/2" x 8"; illustrated endpapers [front ep is creased at the hinges], name in the upper corner of the front ep [Peggy Ann Roach]; 248 pages, a few line illustrations, darkened paper, a few stains, very good condition.
"Jane visits her friend, Cokie (Cordelia) at her new home on a farm and hears the fearsome story of the Swamp Wizard of Simmering Springs. Soon, through unforeseen events in which they mean well, they end up forced to stay overnight at the home of the curt and unpleasant Friesons of Simmering Springs. They hear the terrible cry of the Swamp Wizard, who is said to be angered when any stranger visits the home. Is there really a Swamp Wizard? Was he the cause of family loss? What tragedy lurks in the past of the Friesons? Even as an adult, I enjoyed this story. I would recommend it." [a private review]
