"Masterpiece in the old style. Kenneth P. Williams is not afraid to take all the time he thinks necessary to explain the military side of the war to his satisfaction and he is forward enough to state his opinion on the participants competency, honesty and sense of honor. Things not normally found in a modern history. If you can't get your hands on the entire set, try picking up the first volume. And believe me, if you are a Civil War enthusiast, you will end up getting the entire collection." [private review]

Kenneth Powers Williams (1887-1958) was a professor of mathematics at Indiana University, a distinguished soldier, and a ROTC commander. He was known as the "Father of ROTC" at Indiana University. Williams made many noteworthy achievements in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, and history. In addition to his career in education, Williams also had a successful military career.

Williams is best known for his five-volume book, Lincoln Finds a General, published 1949-1959. Williams had intended to write seven books, but became ill and died just before Volume 5 was published. The first complete five-volume set was published by Macmillan, New York.
