Description
A CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK WALL HANGING, DATED 1935, JANUARY 1. Red ground with black border, displaying a central crucifix embroidered with Chinese characters. Dated to the left 1935 January 1st as a gift to The Right Reverend John Wellington who was an Anglican missionary bishop in Pingyin County, Jinan, Shandong province, China in the early 20th century. To the bottom of the hanging are coloured silk ribbon with various names, probably of Wellington's congregation. Mounted on wooden pole with tassel. Pole length 82cm. Hanging length 90cm not including ribbons. Main section in good condition. Wear to top section with missing tassel.
