Description
Strong casual half plate portrait by Southworth and Hawes of two men in half Boston school case with interesting provenance. The plate was resealed on November 13, 1987 by legendary photo dealer Ken Apollo. He notes the Scovill Extra plate mark, but also the provenance of this image. The plate was initially acquired by California collector Ray Phillips from Holman's Print Shop ca 1940. When Phillips sold his collection, the plate went to Harry Gross in the late 1950s. Next in the chain of ownership was Matthew Isenberg, possibly after Ken brought the plate across the country.
