Description
Michael Wisner (American, b. 1963), Art Pottery Bowl
whiteware vessel, 2005, signed, incised basket weave pattern throughout.
5 x 9 1/2 in dia.
Michael Wisner’s southwestern pottery is heavily inspired by ancient Anasazi and Mimbres potsherds. He digs local clay near his Colorado studio, filters it to remove debris, and hand coils each piece. He forms the clay into objects by hand, adding texture, pattern, and paint, and often using Raku or bon-firing methods for spontaneity. Wisner studied with Potters of the American Indian Pueblos and Mata Ortiz, Mexico, and apprenticed under Juan Quezada.
Collection of a Lady, Youngsville, North Carolina
