Description
A REGENCY BRASS INLAID ROSEWOOD DESK, 1830s, the pierced three-quarter gallery with repeating double "C" scrolls interlocked with rippling shell fans, surrounding a rectangular top inlaid with wood stringing, brass flowers, and quatrefoil leaf patterned border, over a skirt with two locking frieze drawers and central stile inlaid with restrained, cut brass "buhl work" neoclassical fronds, the inlay repeating in the round, raised on a trestle base with vent carved corbels on rounded ogee style feet with inlaid brass starbursts, joined by a later turned and stained wood stretcher. Height: 29" Width: 46" Depth: 28 1/2" Provenance: Collection of Pat L. Harris, Houston, Texas.
