Description
**This item is heavy/oversized and will require 3rd party shipping. Please inquire about shipping cost prior to bidding.**
Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 18th century CE. A remarkably rare heavily-gilt copper repousse panel of a figure, likely a yaksha or nature spirit, supporting the throne of a deity, adorned in elaborate jewelry and scrolling sashes. The figure stands with legs spread and arms held up to support the god who previously sat above him. He turns his head to his left, indicating that this panel would have likely been part of the left side of a throne base. A gorgeous, foliate frame surrounds him with additional foliate designs in each upper corner of the panel. Note how the sinuous sashes and mesmerizing designs grant the piece a dreamlike, ethereal presentation. Size of panel: 12.5" W x 16.1" H (31.8 cm x 40.9 cm); with matte and frame: 18.5" W x 23" H (47 cm x 58.4 cm)
Provenance: private Constance McCormick Fearing estate, Montecito, California, USA, acquired before 2004
