Description
Pair of late 19th century Japanese Meiji period bronze floor censor sculptures. Monumental 5-piece stacked construction. The pair is detailed meticulously throughout, having a Samurai dueling a dragon adorning the top of each censor. The body is sculpted with allover patterns with two elephant heads flanking each side. The base has 3-D dragons circling the outside! Both censors measures approximately 47.25H x 24W x 16.75D. Each censor comes apart in four main pieces while the emperor, dragon and elephant sides all detach.
Condition
One elephant tusk has been broken and reglued on the side. One Samurai on the top has a cracked hand and reglued. Minor scuffs and abrasions noted consistent with age and display use. One decorative knob is not affixed and rests in a hole, knob is present. Please see the pictures for details of condition.
