Description
A pair of antique Meiji period Japanese gilt bronze sculptures in the manner of Miyao Eisuke of Yokohama, 1868 to 1912. The sculptures depict a pair of Royal Court figures holding sticks in their hands and dressed in multilayered clothes adorned with gilt patinated elements and a foliage motif on the backside. The faces are framed with curly hair and a cap on a top. Each sculpture is mounted on a stand with four figural legs. The stands are adorned with engraved swirl and traditional Greek ornaments, and a gilt overlay made in a scrollwork design on the front. The legs are curved and adorned with engraved images of animal faces. Unmarked. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century.
