Description
Japanese Celadon Shi-shi Sculpture, probably late 19th-early 20th century in date, features a Shi-shi lion-- a protective, mythical symbol. Its animated pose scratching it's face portrays it as an earthly lion. The okimono is finely molded with details of curls of fur and expressive face. The celadon glaze pools to emphasize the fur and form. Probably from Arita kilns, it's base is inscribed. It comes with a tomobako.
