Description
Two Japanese Nabeshima Blue and White Porcelain Dishes, Edo Period, c. 1830-80. Nabeshima ware was made in the Okawachi kiln for use by the Nabeshima clan. In production beginning around 1700, potters worked in the kiln until the late 19th century. Both bowls are decorated with the Nabeshima palette of blue, green and red. One dish is decorated with an Omoto design of a flowering plant in blue and orange and dates c.1850-60. The other features a Chuzaru design of 7 scattered books, each with distinctive patterns, c.1850-80.
