A Cold War Mk 123 Transceiver, English, circa 1955, serial no. 123790, the transceiver in painted grey metal case, within canvas carrying case together with earpiece and earphones, aerial and insulators, two crystals, power lead, earth stake and mains checker, transceiver 5 1/2in x 11 1/4in x 3in (14cm x 28.5cm x 7.5cm) outer case 4 1/4in x 12in x 9in (11.5cm x 30.5cm x 23cm) Footnotes: Provenance: The John Elgar-Whinney collection of clandestine radios and cipher machines. A highly compact valve-based self-contained spy radio set, for use by the UK's paramilitary, clandestine and diplomatic services. It was designed by Steve Dorman of the Special Communications Unit at HMGCC and was introduced in 1955 as a post-war replacement for the ageing Type 3 Mk.II (B2).
