A Federal painted settee with caned seat Mid-Atlantic States, circa 1820

The backrest with painted roundels depicting various landscape scenes and having carved and painted foliate motifs, the seat apron with painted foliate motifs, scrolled arms, turned legs with ball feet, connected by stretchers, with later upholstered cushion.

Condition
overall stable and secure; crestrail with a few noted repaired breaks to stile attachments; seat rail with a few repaired / reinforced areas to applied band, with some nails evident, with a particular area to backside that may be a replaced section; with moderate rubbing and wear to painted decoration, with some minor losses and occasional scuffs / scrapes commensurate with age and use; the caned seat with large tear / loss to center- will need to be re-caned; the cushion is modern, with minor signs of wear commensurate with use
