Description
AN AMERICAN HEPPLEWHITE PARCEL GILT PAINTED BEECH SETTEE, TRIPLE OVERLAPPING SUNFLOWER CRESTED SHIELD BACK, 1790s-1830s, of wood peg construction, the triple crested back with arched, molded crest rails centering demilune, naturalistic sunflowers in a web with scroll arch over pierced, vertical splats tapering and converging at top fluting, centering the three unusually overlapping shield backs on undulating molded supports over a trapezoidal upholstered bench slip seat flanked by curved armrests, raised on eight legs - at front with four tapered square legs on spade feet and four canted, rounded back legs; the whole painted in "Vert Empire" green with gilt pinstriping. Height 36" Width: 69" Depth: 19 1/2" Provenance: Estate of Mr. And Mrs. Thomas Dunaway Anderson, River Oaks, Texas.
Condition
Apparent repairs and damages near joints, paint losses throughout, upholstery is faded, stained. Support repairs with screws, old exposure to woodworm.
