Ruth A. Wall (1917-2009) circa 1950s abstract expression painting on board with thick applications of oil paint creating rich colors deep blue, yellow, orange, red and greens and texture, painted redwood frame crafted by the artist and signed on the verso. Ruth Wall lived on a federal Indian reservation Utah in her early years, home schooled, attended Brigham Young University. At the beginning of WWll she moved to Los Angeles were she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in 1944, she wanted to be a pilot, but women were banned from combat at that time, so she became a Ferrier, flying aircraft from manufacturing plants to training fields. In 1949 she attended the California School of Fine Arts (CSFA) later called San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) now defunct. Wall studied with James Budd Dixon and Robert McChesney among others. In 1952 she moved to Paris and studied at the Academie Crochet showed at Musee des Beaux-Arts and Galerie Suit. Returning to SFAI in 1955 to study with Nathan Oliver, David Park and Elmer Bischoff. Wall lived in North Beach for over 45 years, has shown in many exhibitions and is in a number of museums including the Fine arts Museums of San Francisco the de Young and the Legion of Honor, framed 9" H x 19.25" W.
