Description

Modern style cone shaped base with the words "Shavu Banim Ligvulam" which translates to " the sons (of Israel) will return to their border (Israel) cut out in to the base. Stem has three spheres at bottom attached to an octagonal shaped stem topped by a six pointed crown holding up the elliptical shaped cup. Dedicated to the Jewish Heritage Society in 1973 and is numbered 120 on bottom.


Ludwig Yehuda Wolpert- 1900-1981,Ludwig Yehuda Wolpert was born in Hildesheim, Germany In 1916-1920, he began his studies in sculpture at the Frankfurt School of Art. In 1925-1928, he studied goldsmithing at the Frankfurt School of Art.

Following the presentation of the works in the 1930 exhibition "Kult und Form" ("Ritual and form") at the Jewish Museum in Berlin, his works became well known in the German Jewish world. His works were greatly influenced by Modernist design, especially the Bauhaus movement. Wolpert's works avoid decoration, relying on clean, geometric shapes. Wolpert was famous for incorporating cut-out Hebrew letters in novel fonts in his designs using them as the key design element.
