Modern Art: A Large Mezuzah Crafted by the Important Jewish Artist Ludwig Wolpert. Dimensions: 8.5x12.5 cm. Silver plated metal. New York, circa 1960.
A large and attractive mezuzah created by leading Jewish artist Ludwig Wolpert, an Israeli American designer, silversmith and artist, and one of the pioneering modern silversmiths, both in Israel and abroad.
Wolpert was born in Germany in the year 1900. In 1935 he joined the Bezalel Academy of the Arts in Jerusalem, serving as both as a teacher and as the head of the metal department, together with another pioneering silversmith, David Heinz Gumbel.
