Description
C Fremont, 19th Century. "Feeding the Sheep" Oil on Canvas. Signed. Dimensions: 10” x 14”, housed in 19th century ornate gild frame 18" x 22". Condition: Good600- 800, 350, reserve 400 This cheerful shepard has an eager flock of sheep following him into the barn for their dinner of hay. A picturesque work, the painting is signed but little is known of the artist. It is assumed to be that of an Italian artist given that it was hung paired with a barn yard scene of the exact painting style and subject matter by an identifiable Italian artist, Fascini. The detail in the painting is an excellent example of the bucolic pastoral scenes popular in the 19th century romanticizing farm life. The prestige in which the painting was held is evident by the Gold Leaf ornate frame it is housed that is in perfect condition. The painting was beloved by a private family for two generations.
