Description

Anti-American & Vietnam War Chinese Communist Propaganda, 30+ Pcs, Brightly Colored & Highly Collectible!

An archive of anti-American Communist Party propaganda from the People's Republic of China, ca. 1965, comprised of 32 oversized broadsides or small posters (the front cover plus 31pp) depicting patriotic photographs and illustrations related to the Vietnam War. With captions, quotes, and other explanatory text in Chinese, untranslated. Expected wear including negligible isolated scuffs, wrinkles, or closed tears entirely confined to the edges, else near fine. In a vivid palette of red, white, and black. 10" x 14.25." Accompanied by its original transmittal brown paper envelope, 10.375" x 15."

The People's Republic of China (PRC) supported the war effort of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) against the United States, France, and other Western powers in numerous ways. The Chinese sent money, food, clothes, weapons, ammunition, transport, communications equipment, and other military supplies to their fellow Communist allies in North Vietnam between ca. 1950-1968. The Chinese Military Advisory Group proffered counsel and training. Chinese consultants reorganized the North Vietnamese infrastructure and revitalized its economy. The Chinese even sent its own troops to North Vietnam: between June 1965-March 1968, an estimated 320,000 Chinese soldiers were stationed there. Chinese support flagged after 1968 because of an increased threat of conflict from the Soviet Union.

The posters emphasize the military preparedness of the Communist allies against imperialist Westerners first and foremost. There are innumerable images showing recruits and soldiers (both male and female), artillery, guns, ammunition, tanks, barbed wire, naval vessels, sailors, planes, etc. Armed personnel wear branch-decorated helmets, brandish weapons camouflaged by jungle foliage, and plant traps. Other photos suggest a flourishing agriculture and industrial complex; and an engaged and patriotic populus.

Notable images include:

p. 1 - Large bust portrait photograph of Ho Chi Minh (1890-1969), 1st president of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam from 1945-1969.

p. 7 - A photo collage showing a captured pilot, a dead parachutist, and an American prisoner of war marching with his captors.

p. 12 - Two female soldiers staking out the front lines.

p. 22 - Two photos, the top showing a palisade, and the bottom possibly depicting a jungle booby trap.

p. 23 - Photos showing torture.

p. 26 - Enemy wartime casualties/losses depicted in cartoons, bar graphs, and other campy visuals.

p. 27 - Stretchers carrying body bags about to be boarded onto a U.S. Army helicopter.
