Description
Sammy Davis Jr. Personally Owned Golf Moccasins, Glove and Ball W/COA - These black leather golf moccasins were originally owned and worn by legendary performer Sammy Davis Jr. This lot also includes a white golf glove and ball used by Davis at the Hartford Open, in addition to a placard of his name. The lot is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Robin Griffin, President of The Legends Collection, Inc. Born in New York City in 1925, Davis began his career as a child in the vaudeville scene alongside his father and the Will Mastin Trio. Davis achieved virtual overnight success performing at a West Hollywood nightclub after the 1951 Academy Awards, and subsequently became a recording artist and Broadway performer. Nicknamed Mister Show Business, Sammy Davis Jr is considered by historians instrumental in breaking the racial barrier that divided the entertainment industry in the 1950s and 60s. He was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 1987, and was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
