Kurt Cobain Personally Owned 8 x 12 Inch Photo Taken in Chinatown W/Handwritten Inscriptions (Includes Letter of Provenance) - This 8 x 12 inch photograph belonged to grunge rock star and Nirvana front man, Kurt Cobain. The photo was originally acquired from a Seattle bar owner named Mark, whose bar Kurt Cobain visited on a few occasions. The back of the photo has the following handwritten notations that appear to have been written by Kurt Cobain: 10/26/91 Chinatown, AFTERShow MEET Up (with something scribbled out below), Whoever is supporting us tonight this is yours LOVE KURt. The photo is accompanied by a copy of the original statement of provenance from the bar's owner, detailing in his words how he came to acquire the photo when he and his partner asked Kurt Cobain one day if he would have any clothing items he would be willing to donate to help the homeless. According to the letter, "About a month later Kurt came back he was with a friend and I don't to this day know who he was. And Kurt has this box with a few t-shirts and something bizarre as his own personal swimming goggles which he said he'd had for years, I told him thanks." The partner in the bar ownership, referred to as "Josh" in the letter, kept the box because it was Kurt's and did not sell the items until late 1994 when the bar needed funds. The letter goes on to state, "Finally the photo was in the box that Kurt gave, I guess it shouldn't have been there. It looks like it was taken in Asia but I'm guessing it was right here in the States and was maybe in a Chinatown." The lot also includes a second letter re-iterating Mark's statement, signed by a collector who acquired the collection of Cobain items from Mark.
