Mace heads were abstract carvings attached to wooden clubs, these ceremonial weapons were used for many centuries in ancient Costa Rica. Images of human heads may represent a clan leader or chief. Jadeite and greenstone were used in a variety of items and worn as emblems of social and political power. Jade and Jadeite mace heads were a sign of wealth and power.
