African Wooden Carved Ceremonial Stool. The stool would be used as a seat of power and authority for the Luba society chief. It is believed to be made in the Republic of Congo by a member of the Luba or Hemba tribe. The stool shows a woman supporting the seat top, this figure shows the email figure as a receptacle that supports divine kingship. The stool still has a smell of wood and fire. Despite their functional seat form, royal stools are not used for sitting but are sacred and preserved within a king's palace or for rare ceremonial occasions. In good condition some light wear and cracking. Made in the estimated 1800s or early 1900's. It measures 12 1/2 in. long by 11 3/8 in. deep by 17 7/8 in. tall
