Native American / First Nations, Pacific Northwest Coast, Tlingit people, ca. late 20th century CE, pyro-engraved with "CML" on base. A hand-carved wooden totem pole depicting a mother bear seated on her hind legs, her paws up in a defensive pose while 2 disembodied visages adorn her hands. Areas of black and red pigment along each of the 3 faces creates fine detailing that brings the sculpture to life. Totems like this were intended to protect a home and its residents. Size: 4" L x 5.375" W x 10.8" H (10.2 cm x 13.7 cm x 27.4 cm)
