In the early 1960s, Sears and Roebuck commissioned actor and art collector Vincent Price to travel the world to curate a collection of pieces to be sold through a handful of their stores. The collaboration was conceived to make fine art more accessible to all Sears’ customers. Original works by Wyeth, Dali, Rembrandt, Chagall, Picasso, and Whistler, among several others were included in the collection.
