"Pasquerella and Madonna Babetta. Two Hitherto Untranslated Stories by Giovanni Boccaccio. With Some Hitherto Unpublished Sketches by Aubrey Beardsley", published by Biblion Society; The Golden Hind, New York, 1927. Limited Edition of 300 copies for Subscribers Only. Unnumbered review / private copy.
The book is designed by Arthur Rushmore and contains illustrations by Aubrey Beardsley and Willy Pogany. There are several "new sketches" by Beardsley, large plate from Lysistrata" and one plate signed by Willy Pogany.
Collector's copy. Dust jacket with an original price of $7.50 on the front flap is protected in mylar cover, hard boards, embossed faux leather with gold lettering on front board [a little shelf wear]; 8" x 11.1/8"; brown decorated endpapers [the back ep has a vertical fold: see photo], 48 pages including the ad for Venus in Furs; high quality cream-color paper, very good condition.
The Golden Hind Press, established in 1927, was the private press of Arthur W. Rushmore (1883-1955) who for many years (1922-41) had been the director of design and manufacture for Harper & Bros. Publishers and had five designs selected for AIGA's Fifty Books of the Year.
"Biblion Society" is a Rushmore's invention. It refers to The Erotica Biblion Society (London, 1898-1907) and indicates a limited distribution due to the erotic character of the book.
