Description
The lot features a circa 1885-1890 Chippewa Indian beaded hide bag with strap, otherwise known as a bandolier bag. The bag shows a classic whimsical floral geometric pattern with all period correct 19th Century glass trade seed beads on Indian tanned hide. The beadwork shows colors of sky padre light blue, chalk white, medium green, cobalt, semi-transparent violet, semi-transparent, greasy dark green, red white heart with a fancy edge in red and light blue. The top Indian tanned hide strap is also covered in fancy beaded outside edge. Trade thread sewn. Inside flap is covered in trade clothe. There was a tag on the inside marked John Clayton. Provenance: Found to be an authentic circa 1885-1890 Chippewa example by the experts at Morphys / James D. Julia. Bag measures overall 20”L by 8”W.*
