An unusual unit commemorative certificate awarded to a former Infantry assistant armourer-artificer who saw active service on the Eastern Front and in the area of Bobruisk with 9thArmy as part of Army Group Centre during the period which is mentioned in the certificate, the text of which is as follows:453rdGrenadier RegimenttoObergefreiter Paul Erat4/453rdGrenadier RegimentThe proven Assistant Armourer-Artificer and trench combatant in commemoration of his action during the period from 20.12.1943-1.1.1944.In the field 20.1.1944Signed – PelchenOberst and Commanding Officer.Pelchen was awarded the German Cross in Gold on 21.11.1943 as Oberstleutnant and Commanding Officer 453rdGrenadier Regiment. He was promoted to Oberst on 1.10.1943.253rdInfantry Division was involved in heavy defensive fighting in the area of Bobruisk during the period mentioned in the certificate, being moved slowly westwards over a period of a few months by several significant Russian attacks.
