Description
One of the most eclectic and exciting offerings to date. The Barksdale family has had a long illustrious military history, beginning in the Revolutionary War, continuing with General William Barksdale during the American Civil War, on through to Col. Battle Barksdale serving in both WWII and Korea. Col. Barksdale is the namesake for the 24,000-square-foot parade ground at the National WWII museum in New Orleans. This interesting lot is a diarama of artifacts from the history of the Barksdale military heritage. The uniforms and paper items belonged to Col. Battle Barksdale. These are highlighted by three hand-drawn posters depicting the barksdale military lineage, and appear to have been constructed during his time in the military. The M-43 field jacket is a fine example, with the 82nd AB patch on the left shoulder, jump wings, and name strip. Other items include a very early flintlock pistol with both 1836 and 1842 dates. Additional items include, commissioning paperwork, Bronze Star citation, 1930's Boy Scout sash, 19th century family top hat, and much more.
