Bodo Bleß (1940-2022) collection, Berlin, formed from ca. 1960 onwards.

The ibis was associated with the god Thoth, who records the judgement of the heart of the deceased. The birds were sacred and beloved animals to the Egyptians, so much so that those who killed an ibis, accidentally or otherwise, were put to death.
