Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Casas Grandes, ca. 1100 to 1450 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of sizable form with a stylized avian head protruding from atop the rim. The round-but stable body is adorned with dense red and black decorations that form large triangles and spiraling tendrils as well as create the eyes and feathers of the bird head. Size: 5.6" W x 6.3" H (14.2 cm x 16 cm)

Condition
Repair to beak of bird with adhesive residue and some overpainting along break lines, otherwise remainder of vessel is intact. Minor abrasions and nicks, with a few small spalls, and light earthen abrasions, otherwise in very good condition. Nice preservation to painted decorations across exterior.
