Description
Schuyler Colfax was Vice President from 1869-1873, during Ulysses S. Grant's first term in office, and before that was the 25th Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1863-1869. Colfax was one of the founders of the Republican Party and strongly opposed slavery while in Congress. He led the effort to pass the 13th Amendment. Letter is rare in that it is addressed to President Lincoln. Framed with photograph. 12-1/4" long x 14-3/4" wide. Some losses to frame.
