Kyathos. Ancient Greece, Daunia, 5th-4th century BC.
Terracotta.
Repaired. Damaged rim and handle.
Provenance: K. J. Hewett, Kent 1975; Michael Shaw acquired in London 1991; acquired by Mr. Emiel Kusters from the above in 2006, Amsterdam.
Measurements: 11 x 12 cm.
A shallow bowl with a very offset lip. The decoration is in shades of brown and red. The inner side of the lip has brown bands on the upper and lower rims and a reddish-brown band in the centre. The outer face of the lip has a brown band around the rim. Geometric motifs on the exterior and no decoration on the tondo. On the underside: an eight-spoke wheel motif in black. The handle is decorated with swastikas.
