A Chinese Wucai Porcelain Circular Box and Cover. The container is of circular shape and has a short foot. It is decorated on the top of the cover with a scene of robed scholars gathering under a banana tree on the terrace, playing a game of chess. The exterior wall depicts a row of four foo dogs chasing brocade balls. The recessed base is inscribed with a six-character apocryphal Wanli mark in underglazed blue within double-lined circles. {Diameter 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm)}.
