Description
A Sardinian bronze votive of a bull, 8th - 7th century B.C. Stylised figure of a bull with elongated jaws and large, sweeping horns. Distinctively stylised eyes and ears. The neck and body comparatively slender and "burred". A "collar" around the neck below the ears. The thin legs terminating in elaborately crafted claws, the body open and hollow on the underside, the genital modelled within this cavity. The proximal part of the tail raised and then bent at a right angle, twisted towards the end. Very unique, stylised but very expressive animal sculpture dating from the early Iron Age. Length approx. 14.5 cm. Height 14.2 cm. With a custom acrylic glass base. Extremely rare, especially in this completeness.Condition: I -
