Description

AARON SOULE LARA (1824-1901), SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA ARCHIVES, comprising manuscript letters and note, billheads, etc., including four Civil War requisition notices dated March 31, 1862, written from Jackson's River [Depot], Alleghany Co., "Take notice that you are required to retain for the use of the army of the Confederate States all the corn you have; not needed for your own use. The price to be determined in a short time."; two mill receipts; billheads for Brown's American Hotel, Staunton, (2) Kamerer & Faic, Watchmakers and Jewelers, Staunton, etc. 1850s-1860s. Various sizes.
Catalogue Note: A.S. Lara was born in Maine but moved to the Shenandoah Valley by 1850. He was appointed postmaster of Selma, Alleghany Co. in 1858. He also maintained a residence in Staunton, where he became a prominent contractor as well as a farmer.
