George Febres
New Orleans, Ecuador,1943-1996
Depicts a sandwich bursting with greens and phalluses topped with an olive. Febres, an openly gay artist, was friends with Andy Warhol and other Avant Garde artists. His works often consist of bananas, a common produce in Ecuador, alongside phallic imagery. He is credited with starting an art movement called Visionary Imagism. This work was part of a collection owned by William Armstrong Percy III, a professor at the University of Massachusetts, historian, encyclopedist, and Gay Rights Activist.

From the collection of an Uxbridge, Massachusetts estate.

Area of rippling to top of paper that does not appear to be from water damage, frame with light surface wear, otherwise good condition.
