CHOATE, John N. (1848-1902), photographer. Boudoir card featuring a group of Piegan Chiefs. Carlisle, PA, 1892.
Approx. 5 x 7 in. boudoir photograph on cardstock mount (toning, some soiling, and light wear to mount edges and corners); framed to 12 5/8 x 15 7/8 in. (not examined out of frame). Titled "Piegan Chiefs" and copyrighted in the negative.

Another example of this image, held at the Cumberland County Historical Society, identifies the featured subjects as Running Crane, Little Dog, White Grass, White Calf, Little Plume, Four Horns, Brocky, and Bear Chief.

John N. Choate (1848-1902) began a long photographic career at Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1879 when the famous Carlisle Indian Industrial School was founded. According to the 8 January 1892 issue of one of Carlisle's school newspapers, The Indian Helper, the chiefs featured here had visited the week prior.
