[NATIVE AMERICANS]. FLY, C.S. (1849-1901), photographer. Geronimo, the Apache Chief, as taken before the surrender to Gen. Crook in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico. Tombstone, AZ, 1888.4 7/8 x 7 3/4 in. boudoir photograph on cardstock mount (toning, soiling and spotting throughout, edge and corner wear including small pinhole at each corner of print/mount). C.S. Fly's copyright ink stamp dated 1888 at Tombstone, Arizona, is included on the print, at lower right (fading to ink). Applied paper label on verso with title, description, image number 188, and imprint of C.S. Fly, Tombstone, Arizona. Printed title/description reads in full: "Geronimo, the Apache Chief, as taken before the surrender to Gen. Crook in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico. Escaped March 30, 1886. The most fiendish, cruel and bloodthirsty of the Apaches now defying the United States and Mexico." A rarely encountered image of Geronimo.
