This Pennsylvania Deutsch fraktur "Tree of Christian Beliefs" was painted by Schwenkfelder minister and carpenter Balthasar (Balzer) Heydrick from Lower Salford, Montgomery County Pa. It is a beautiful and intricate piece of folk art that depicts the central tenets of Christianity. The tree is made up of a central tulip that branches into other tulips, each of which represents a different belief. The base of the tulip is dated 1784. The bible verse bubbles along the branches provide further explanation of each belief. Balthasar (Balzer) Heydrick (1765-1846) was a Schwenkfelder minister and artist who lived in Lower Salford, Pennsylvania in the 19th century.
