Description
World War I American M1917 helmet for a member of the 78th Infantry Division, bearing the original textured green paint. One side displays the hand-painted ‘lightning’ insignia for the division. Lacking the chinstrap. The lining, though present, does show some wear. Marked on the interior rim with the heat stamp ‘ZF 45’. Painted over the heat stamp are the initials ‘JFO’. Expected scratches and wear to the paint. The 78th Infantry Division was activated on Aug. 23, 1917, and saw action in three major campaigns, including Meuse-Argonne, St. Mihiel, and Lorraine.
