Description
(1885 - 1966) American admiral, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War II and largely responsible for the successful 'island-hopping' campaign against the Japanese. Most desirable S.P., 9.5 x 7.5 in. b/w, depicting Nimitz signing the Japanese Instrument of Surrender aboard the USS MISSOURI in Tokyo Bay, placing his signature upon the pictured surrender document: 'C.W. Nimitz'. Slightly faded, with a white paper identification label at bottom, possibly affixed to the photo. Set into a period frame.
