IMPORTANT TRANSITIONAL ERA IN AMERICAN HISTORY. United States and the Independent Republic of Texas. 1846. By Thunot Duvoteney. Published in Paris. Texas officially joins the union on December 20,1845. Making this among the last maps to show an independent Texas. Showing a smaller republic than the state is at present with those lands labeled New Mexico. The entire southwestern region is Mexican territory and the year this map was published, the Mexican-American war would begin. Within two years all of that area would be a part of the United States. The Colorado and Gila Rivers are among the few features of that area mentioned on the map. Among the most unusual and interesting features of this map is the naming and dividing of many areas west of the Mississippi into â€˜Districtsâ€™, they include Huron, Mandanes, Oregon, Osages, Ozark, and Sioux. Steel engraved, hand-colored. 12 1/3 x 9”. Overall excellent condition. Authenticity Guaranteed.
