Description
1857 Phrenology Physiology Physiognomy Psychological Pseudoscience Fowler Wells
“The Illustrated Self-Instructor in Phrenology and Physiology” is a fascinating 19th-century manual by Orson Squire Fowler and Lorenzo Niles Fowler that delves into the once-popular fields of phrenology and physiognomy. The book presents a unique guide to understanding a persons character by measuring cranial bumps and analyzing facial features. Although these practices have long been discredited, the authors passionately believed in the validity of their methods and sought to teach them as a legitimate medical science.
This engaging work features 100 engravings that vividly depict the diagnostic and treatment process, as well as a “Chart of the Character” that serves as a guide for recording a persons character traits. With its intriguing subject matter, instructive illustrations, and historical significance, “The Illustrated Self-Instructor in Phrenology and Physiology” offers readers a rare glimpse into a forgotten world and invites them to explore the curious and often controversial beliefs that once captured the publics imagination.
